Varicose Veins: A New and Effective Treatment

Posted by Tyler J. Arsenault B.Sc (Nutrition) on 2017 Nov 9th

Last summer, our team at Full Circle spent the weekend at a naturopathic health conference in Toronto hosted by Xymogen Professionals. We had the pleasure to hear from over a dozen experts from a variety of fields ranging from neurology to endocrinology. Now that we’ve finally had a chance to fully digest all 251 pages of notes and handouts that we brought with us, we’re excited to report that there were a few gems that surprised us and we’ll be sure to share them with you in due time either here in our E-Newsletter.

As you could imagine we’ve had a healthy handful of patients and customers suffering from spider veins and varicose veins of varying degrees. Whether due to chronic venous insufficiency, pregnancy, weight changes or just a bad sitting habit, pooling blood flow that results in ballooning or darkened veins and capillaries; particularly in the legs, are incredibly common problems. Until recently, lifestyle and dietary approaches combined with traditional remedies such as horse-chestnut, butcher’s broom and citrus bioflavonoids were fairly standard protocol but provided mixed results. It seemed that while many people achieved significant results, it was less consistent than we would have liked.

During the conference we were introduced to a propriety formula consisting of micronized diosmin from orange peel and hesperidin; also a component from citrus fruits. Europeans have been enjoying a pharmaceutical drug based on this formula for several years and published results have yielded remarkable results in reversing spider and varicose veins while actually strengthening the venous wall and valve structures. Diosmin also supports normal lymph drainage, healthy capillary permeability and microcirculation. The particular form of diosmin we have begun to use with our patients is a unique form of micronized purified flavonoid fraction (MPFF) which is less than 4 microns in size (or less than 4/1000ths of a millimetre!) The micronization of disomin is essential to its effectiveness, and a quick examination of several disomin manufacturers have indicated inferior results due to lack of proper production and standardization.

Randomized double-blind placebo controlled studies (the gold standard), have shown marked improvement of circulatory health and the appearance of varicose and spider veins with MPFF disomin. Further research has indicated that diosmin is very safe and currently, there are no known side-effects to report. Indeed, some of the case studies we saw were absolutely incredible and if the data is accurate (there’s no reason why it shouldn’t be), these impressive results are to be the norm as opposed to the exception!

But what about real world people?! (as opposed to the kind of people used in studies). A few of our patients have already begun using MPFF diosmin are reporting wonderful results so far we’re getting pretty excited as you can imagine. In fact, of the people using diosmin, feedback has been 100% positive.
